Our Lenses

While not as flashy as the color or shape, the lenses of a pair of glasses are arguably the most important. DiscountGlasses.com offers Essilor lenses in four different options for both single vision and progressive prescriptions, ranging from standard plastic to light-adaptive Transitions®. Our detailed description of each lens—along with explanations of some key industry terms—will help you make the best decision in choosing the right one.

Our Lenses

Terms to know:

  • Lens Index: This indicates the thickness of the lens. The higher the index number, the thinner the lens.
  • Abbe value: The abbe value measures how widely the lens disperses different wavelengths. Ranging from 30 to 60, the higher the abbe value, the better the visual clarity.
  • Roll & Polish: Smoothes lens edges and takes down back-edge sharpness in strong prescriptions making them appear thinner. All prescriptions above +6.00 and below -6.00 include this free of charge.

Optional Lens Enhancements

  • Anti-Reflective: Reduces blinding glare, gives you sharper vision, and eliminates reflections on the lenses so people can see your eyes.
  • Blue Light: A clear treatment that reduces eye strain by reflecting high-energy blue light indoors and outdoors.
  • Transitions: Photochromic lenses change from clear to tinted as they are exposed to UV light.
  • Sun Tint: Turn eyeglasses into UV protective sunglasses. Tint is 80% opaque for a true sunglasses look.
