Your Back-to-School Checklist

Amanda Schafer

Once summer comes to an end, that doesn’t mean the fun has to end. The best part about going back to school is the back-to-school shopping! Use our checklist to start fresh this school year.

Back-To-School Checklist

Refresh Your Wardrobe

Everyone wants to go back to school looking their best. Although repeating last years’ outfits isn’t a crime, wearing new clothes makes the return to school much more fun. Go through your closet to donate or sell any pieces you haven’t worn in the last few years, and make room for some staples. You’ll walk into class with a new-found wardrobe and confidence.

Update Your Technology

Most students live off of their laptops. Make sure it is updated, charged, and has enough storage left for everything you’ll work on this year. Go through and delete any assignments taking up space that you won’t need again. Also, don’t forget to pack all the accessories such as chargers, cases, headphones, and blue light glasses.

Purchase the Dorm Essentials

As a college student, you need to make the most out of your space. Rather than trying to recreate your bedroom at home, start with the necessities and add to it later.

  • Twin XL Bedding: Most dorm rooms have a twin XL bed, so regular twin sheets won’t fit.
  • Mattress Pad: The beds in dorms are less than luxurious. A mattress pad is a must for some extra comfort.
  • Bed Risers: If your beds are debunked, you can add bed risers to lift it up and create more storage space underneath.
  • Storage Bins: Get creative with your storage. Buy bins that can slide under your bed and organizers that can hang in your closet.
  • Shower Shoes & Caddy: Since you’ll most likely be using a shared shower, get some rubber flip flops and a caddy to carry your toiletries around.
  • Laundry Hamper: Whether the laundry room is in your building or the one next door, you’ll need to transfer your clothes from one place to another.

I know what you’re thinking—how are you supposed to afford all of this? If you’re on a budget like most students, this time of year is actually a great time to buy new clothing and supplies. There are tons of back-to-school sales that can be found in stores and online. Some retailers also offer student discounts that are available all year round. Keep an eye out for the best deals and you’ll be able to shop til you drop before going back to school!
