As the summer weather heats up, we are being exposed to more and more ultraviolet (UV) rays. That’s why August is the perfect time to observe National Eye Exam Month! Even though your mind may be focused around having fun and traveling in the summer, eye care should remain a priority.
August has been the month to recognize the importance of eye exams since 1989. Maintaining your eye health is all about taking preventative measures since most eye diseases can be treated in the early stages. Because a lot of vision problems are also asymptotic, it’s recommended to get an eye exam annually even if there are no apparent issues. We know it may be difficult to get yourself to schedule an appointment when it feels like nothing is wrong, but trust us—it’s better to be safe than sorry.
At the eye doctor, a comprehensive eye exam can range from half an hour to a couple hours depending on your needs. You will begin by filling out paperwork explaining your medical history. Then, you’ll go through a series of vision tests to see how your eyes align, pupils adjust, and more. Don’t worry, it’s a painless process.
If you really can’t get into the eye doctor for another eye exam and need to renew your prescription, we offer our free Online Vision Test! It’s a great option for those who are in a pinch.
